PurpleAir Sensors

PurpleAir is a popular air quality monitoring sensor system designed for both professional and household use. These sensors are compact, easy to install, and provide real-time data through a cloud platform.

The most popular model is the PurpleAir Classic, which features two laser sensors for detecting PM2.5 (particulate matter up to 2.5 micrometers in diameter).

PurpleAir sensors provide high measurement accuracy at a relatively low cost, making them especially popular among volunteers and independent researchers. However, like all low-cost sensors, their accuracy may decrease under extreme conditions, such as high humidity or temperature.

The devices include Plantower PMS-5003 and BOSCH BME280 sensors.

A calibration formula has been developed for these sensors to align their data with US standards. Our website uses these adjusted values.
